Them Poems
Released: 1964
Label: Vee-Jay (VJLP 1103)

Status: Out of Print

Notes:Them Since Then
Mason Williams, June 2000

I guess the ultimate compliment for me is that a lot of folks think that Them Poems weren"t written by anybody, that they are part of the great public domain body of work written by "anonymous". It's also great to have come up with a poem form that others seem to enjoy exploring. I'm glad it inspires them to get silly and have as much fun with the language as I did.

Kids in school seem to have gotten a lot of mileage out of them. Kids, of course, love to show out, and Them Poems got laughs, so they were perfect when the assignment was to memorize and recite a poem for class. Over the years I've had many people send me copies of Them Poems that they've written. I've had teachers send me copies of Them Poems that they had asked their classes to write on assignment. I always endeavored to avoid obvious subjects like Them Nose Pickers, but boy, let me tell you, they didn't!

Song List:
SIDE 1
Them Poems Intro

Notes: You've got to think of this record as being like a recording-farm with a crop of music. Forty minutes on a record is like forty acres of land to work and in order to keep going, I have to get the best yield possible. After a while you begin to realize that it's hard for one man to work the whole thing by himself and make a profit. Farmers find sharecroppers to help them get the most out of their land, so I've found some "sharepickers" to help me get the most out of my record.
